Description

An oral history of Marian, a village in Grenada, West Indies.

Here is a moving tribute to Caribbean culture and history, in the actual words of village elders who lived it. Descendants of African slaves, by uniting in common humanity, triumph over adversity to build the social and economic foundations of their island nation at the village level.

This book is the work of a Bahá’í pioneer and Peace Corps Volunteer, based on data she collected in 1990 while living in the Grenadian village of Marian (pronounced Mary-Ann). As the Soviet Union collapses and the Cold War thaws, Cheri Matthews turns her attention to human history on a smaller, more intimate scale. In so doing, she preserves for posterity incredible slices of life that might otherwise have been lost forever.

A richly revealing saga of spirit and transformation!
